South Scotland MSP Colin Smyth has commented on an update from NHS Dumfries and Galloway which urged member of the public to remain vigilant following the cyber attack on the health board.

Colin Smyth said: “It’s been a few weeks now since the cyber attack and I know many people remain very worried about the possibility of their clinical data potentially being leaked, given the threats being made against the NHS by those responsible.

“I would reiterate what the NHS has said in their statement and urge everyone to be very cautious if they are approached by any method by someone claiming to have their personal data.

“If in doubt, discontinue any contact and speak to the police by calling 101.

“It’s been weeks since we first heard about this attack and while I appreciate that the NHS is limited in what they can say, I would urge them to continue to be as transparent as possible with members of the public – in particular should there be any further leaks by those who have stolen the data.

“I’ve heard from a lot of very worried constituents and this latest statement will continue to fuel their concerns.”
