South Scotland MSP Colin Smyth has said he is “very concerned” about the news that the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has launched a consultation into the future of Leadhills Community Fire Station

SFRS has said this is an opportunity for the public and stakeholders to have their say about either the full reinstatement of operations or the closure of the station, or any other options.

The consultation runs between 10 July and 18 August and a pre-consultation information session will be taking place in Leadhills village on 4 July.

Colin Smyth said: “I am very concerned to hear the news that SFRS has been forced to launch a consultation on the future of Leadhills Community Fire Station.

“Like all our public services, SFRS is facing serious funding issues thanks to sustained cuts from the SNP Green Scottish Government and that puts them in the terrible position of having to make difficult decisions about the future of community fire stations like Leadhills.

“I would urge local people and anyone with an interest to give their views on the future of the station.”
