South Scotland MSP Colin Smyth is supporting Mental Health Awareness Week and is urging local businesses and organisations across South Scotland to join him.

Mental Health Awareness Week, which is hosted by The Mental Health Foundation, takes place between the 14th and 20th of May. The theme for 2018 is ‘Stress: Are We Coping?’

The Mental Health Foundation have revealed statistics which show over 70% of all adults have suffered from stress in the last year. The campaign this year is aiming to tackle stress which is a major contributing to all mental health conditions.

Colin Smyth is encouraging local businesses and organisations across South Scotland to get involved in the campaign. Colin is happy to provide posters to any organisation who wish to take part.

Colin Smyth said, “From time to time people suffer from stress for a number of reasons including financial worries, education and work. In some instances, this leads to mental health conditions that go unnoticed by those suffering from the conditions and their families. This campaign aims to raise awareness of the symptoms of mental health conditions which will help more people to receive a diagnosis quicker.

I am proud to be supporting this campaign and would encourage organisations across the whole of South Scotland to join me in promoting this campaign. Any organisation that wishes to take part can contact my office for posters and materials on the issue.”

Any business or organisation who would like to receive posters for Mental Health Awareness week can contact Colin Smyth’s office at colin.smyth.msp@parliament.scot or by phoning 01387 279205.
