Colin Smyth MSP
South Scotland MSP Colin Smyth has called on the Post Office to find an alternative operator for their Waterloo Street branch at the Foregate, Kilmarnock “as a matter of priority”.
The branch closed last year after the postmaster resigned and withdrew the premises for Post Office use, however since then, no alternative has been found.
Colin Smyth said: “The news that the Waterloo Street Post Office at the Foregate in Kilmarnock is set to remain closed is very disappointing and will be a real blow for the people who rely on its services.
“Post Office has said that it has actively been looking for alternative premises but have come up blank.
“I would like to take this opportunity to appeal to any local businesses or organisations who think they might be able to house a Post Office to come forward.
“In the past couple of years we’ve seen closures, reduced hours and temporary services affecting communities across Ayrshire and it’s not good enough.
“People need Post Offices in their local communities but more and more we’re seeing them disappearing.
“I hope a solution can be found as soon as possible.”
