Colin Smyth MSP

South Scotland MSP Colin Smyth has commented on exam results which were released this week.
Colin Smyth said: “The past couple of years have been hugely challenging for both pupils and teachers and I would like to congratulate everyone who received their exam results this week, as well as all teachers who have worked so hard in very difficult circumstances.
“I hope those receiving their results feel like their hard work has paid off, but I know some will be disappointed.
“In these cases, it is important to remember that everyone’s journey is different and there is support out there for anyone who needs it.”
The local MSP added: “It’s clear from these results however, that the outstanding work of our teachers and young people is a sticking plaster over a system that is failing them. The attainment gap between the poorest and richest is increasing, the number of subjects on offer in schools is being cut and there is still not enough support to help pupils so badly affected by the pandemic.
“The Green/SNP Government has dramatically cut funding to the poorest communities in Scotland and we are years away from any substantive reform. They have no plan, no leadership and their continued failings in this work are becoming a national scandal.”
