South Scotland MSP Colin Smyth has criticised the Scottish Government for letting down patients and NHS workers in Dumfries and Galloway, after the latest waiting times figures revealed an array of missed targets in the region.

The report published last week shows over 350 people in Dumfries and Galloway had to wait more than 12 weeks to see a doctor on inpatient and day case admissions.*

The figures reveal that across Scotland only 82% of patients were seen within the SNP’s 12 week treatment time guarantee -; despite it being a legal right for patients to be treated within 12 weeks.

Dumfries and Galloway fell to 89% falling from a record high 97% in 2012.

Colin Smyth MSP and Scottish Labour’s Shadow Health spokesperson said:

“The latest waiting times figures show the pressure the NHS is under in Dumfries and Galloway as a result of staff shortages and Government cuts. Staff are struggling to cope with a growing work load, so it’s little wonder the recent NHS staff survey showed that two thirds of NHS employees said there wasn’t enough staff to do their jobs properly. The people of Dumfries and Galloway deserve better than this. It is clear from this report that the Scottish Government are failing patients and staff in Dumfries and Galloway”.
