LEGACY OF WICKERMAN FESTIVAL WILL LIVE ON, SAYS LOCAL MSP

South Scotland MSP and Dumfries and Galloway Council's Events Champion Colin Smyth has expressed his disappointment at the news the Wickerman Festival won't be held again but believes the legacy of the festival, which played a huge role in putting the region on the map as a venue for major music festivals, will live on.

Colin Smyth said:

"I suspect this news won't come as a surprise given the decision not to hold the festival this year but that doesn't make it anymore disappointing. Like thousands of people across Dumfries and Galloway and beyond, I have very fond memories of attending the Wickerman Festival, which played a huge role in putting our region on the map as a venue for some of the most outstanding music festivals in Scotland. You only have to look at the Eden Festival, Electric Fields and many others to see that the legacy of Wickerman lives on. For that reason we owe everyone involved in the Wickerman a debt of gratitude and they can look back on the past fifteen years with a huge amount of pride ".
